In Torts today we went over our negotiation exercise. I had been a bit disappointed because I thought we settled to high (we did settle for 2.5 times the average) but I learned that our opposing counsel would have likely been disbarred for withholding information and that our agreement would have been void because it was based on fraudulent allegations. We then went into a discussion of ethics and how important reputation is for a lawyer which concluded with my Torts professor stating, "Well, I guess it's like my mother always told me all your hard work establishing a good reputation can be ruined in one ill-considered evening."
In Legal Writing we discussed how to improve our memo drafts. He chose two student examples (which he presented anonymously) and discussed some positive aspects of each and how both could be improved. The first example was mine. It was actually really nice to have the class discuss what was wrong with my memo because now I have quite a bit to go with for improvements. Also, my professor pointed out some things he thought the author (me) did well. After class he caught up with me and told me that I "had survived the critique." He asked me how things were going generally and we talked about the looming finals and whatnot. He said that they're not as terrible as everyone makes them out to be and that after they're over you get a three week vacation... I can't wait! Meanwhile, it's back to work.
